The best examples of the successful use of Edge Computing can be seen in the Internet of Things and autonomous cars. That's where open source Linux comes in. Red Hat Enterprise Linux is built with edge capabilities to address enterprise deployments in small areas. It also forms the foundation for open hybrid cloud environments and a complete stack of computing, storage, networking and automation technology to take full advantage of the cloud and edge in the future. The latest version of Linux announced by Red Hat defines the platform's role as a production-grade, yet lightweight, operating system for deployments to the Edge. In addition, it adds new management, deployment and container capabilities that correspond to the needs of Edge computing. "In telecommunications companies, governments, health entities and in many other industries, Linux has become the central platform on which organizations base their technological deployment to run their business," said Adrian Cambareri, Red Hat Manager. Promptly, Red Hat announced that it has focused on offering an evolution of the Linux operating system for the automotive industry in collaboration with Exida. This operating system will be prepared to receive continuous updates seeking to offer greater flexibility to the automotive software ecosystem, allowing vehicle manufacturers and their partners to focus on innovative driving experiences. "The automotive industry is going through a change. All the new demands that vehicles will operate with have to be operated by extremely secure operating systems, with attributes like those that RHEL projects." , Chiras clarified. In terms of new managed services, the company introduced Red Hat OpenShift API Management, Red Hat OpenShift Streams for Apache Kafka, and Red Hat OpenShift Data Science, designed to deliver a seamless and fully managed user experience focused on native applications of cloud running in hybrid environments. These services are integrated with Red Hat OpenShift Dedicated and are focused on mitigating the operational complexities of the IT environment. Additionally, the company announced the arrival of the full Kubernetes stack. It is one of the fastest growing open source projects, but it requires additional components such as management and enhanced security to truly meet business needs. This is what facilitates the new version of the platform, which has all the components that are required to function completely and reliably. Finally, Red Hat announced an expanded collaboration with Boston University to help fund education and research for open source projects and hybrid cloud projects. To further these efforts, Red Hat announced that it made donations of software subscriptions to the educational institution of more than $ 570 million and announced a renewed and expanded commitment of $ 20 million to support research and deepen collaboration.
